Located about 260kms from Sydney, Orange is rich in local history, has a flourishing cultural scene, beautiful parks and gardens and is surrounded by natural attractions. Orange is also known as the colour city for its vibrant autumn foliage display.

Orange has an estimated local government area population of approx 41,000 and an estimated city population of approx 39,500 making the city a major provincial centre. The key industries include health care & social assistance, mining, retail and the education & training sector. A significant nearby landmark is Mount Canobolas. With a peak elevation of 1,395 meters (4,577 ft) it gives commanding views of the district.

Orange is also the birthplace of poets Banjo Paterson and Kenneth Slessor, although Paterson lived in Orange for only a short time as an infant.

Orange and its surrounding areas are enjoying a growing reputation for rare and exotic produce thanks to the cool climate and rich volcanic soils. The produce ranges from stone fruits and sheep's cheeses to fungi and grapes. More than 50 cool-climate wineries operate in the area that has now become one of the most exciting wine regions in Australia.

Orange Airport is located 15 km from Orange’s town centre. Regional Express services the airport with various weekly direct flights to and from Sydney. For other major Australian cities, connect via Sydney for travel into Orange.
